Cannes Opens New Opportunities for the Slovak Film Commission
This year’s Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival confirmed Slovakia’s growing presence on the map of the international audiovisual industry. As part of the Czech & Slovak Pavilion, the Slovak Film Commission met with producers, representatives of film institutions, and global streaming platforms, returning from Cannes with new industry connections and concrete interest in filming in Slovakia.
During the festival, Zuzana Bieliková of the Slovak Film Commission participated in a series of business meetings, expert panels, and international discussions focused on the future of European cinema and the role of film commissions.
The programme also included meetings with international film commissions, including the Association of Film Commissioners International and the European Film Commissions Network, where Zuzana Bieliková serves as a board member.
The programme also included meetings of the European Film Agency Directors Association and BPX, where discussions centred on strengthening collaboration and unity within the European audiovisual sector.
A significant part of the programme consisted of meetings with independent producers, as well as representatives of companies and platforms including Netflix, Amazon, Paramount, and Warner Bros. Discovery. Discussions focused on opportunities for international collaboration, production partnerships, and Slovakia’s potential as an attractive filming destination.
One of the notable trends at this year’s market was the growing interest from Japanese producers. According to the Slovak Film Commission, this development is also the result of a long-term strategy of building relationships with Asian markets through business trips and participation in industry events in India and Japan over recent years.
During the festival, the Slovak Film Commissiona also introduced new promotional catalogues aimed at strengthening Slovakia’s international visibility as an attractive destination for film and television productions.
