Slovak Film Commission has received a nomination for the Global Production Awards 2026

Slovakia scores on the global film stage: nomination for the Global Production Awards 2026 confirms the country’s growing potential

The Slovak Film Agency has achieved a significant international success. Based on its submission to the prestigious Global Production Awards 2026, Slovakia has been shortlisted in the Emerging Location category, which recognizes rapidly developing film destinations.

This nomination comes amid strong competition from dozens of countries around the world. It is therefore all the more noteworthy that Slovakia managed to impress a jury composed of leading figures from the global film industry. These include, for example, John Rakich (Location Managers Guild International), Lee Young (The Walt Disney Company), Veronica Sullivan (NBCUniversal), Jay Roewe (HBO), Yasmine Lintmeijer (Disney Studios Australia), Melissa Heuer (Amazon MGM Studios), Andy Harries (Left Bank Pictures), and Tamara Tatishvili (Hubert Bals Fund, IFF Rotterdam).

The criteria for nomination covered several key areas. Film commissions were required to demonstrate an increase in production volume, improved service levels, growth in crew base and infrastructure, as well as a diverse range of locations and attractive incentives for international productions. Slovakia has made notable progress in these areas in recent years, which is reflected in this nomination.

The winners will be announced on May 18, 2026, during the Cannes Film Festival. Being shortlisted alone represents a significant recognition for Slovakia and confirms its rising position as an attractive film destination.
