Čičmany - Village Museum

Čičmany is a village situated in the Žilina Region. It is known for its traditional log houses decorated with typical white ornamentation.
The paintings were intended to protect the logs from the effect of sunrays as well as humidity. The authors of the ornaments were women, who originally decorated only the corners of the houses with clay and later with lime stone. This type of geometrical ornamentation was also used in embroidery and applied to garments, pictures or tablecloths. The Village Museum counts 136 houses.
